Have you ever felt like you were wandering aimlessly through life? Ever wondered why your days seem like a replay of the previous one? Ever feel like you are working hard in your personal and professional life but aren’t getting anywhere worthwhile? If you are in a place where you feel stagnant then it’s time to take a step back and decide where you want to go in life! It’s time to set some goals.
Why set goals?
Goal setting is an important part of life because it promotes growth and a sense of focus. Setting goals will help you assess where you are currently, where you want to go and what the steps are that will help you to get there.
Types of Goals
Professional goals should be focused on what you want to achieve in your career. Do you want a new role at your company? Aspire for a promotion? Want to take on greater responsibility? Start a business? Identify these things and the steps that it will take to get there. This will make you feel as though you have something you are working towards.
Personal goals could be focused on your health, relationships, family, purchasing a home, climbing a mountain, conquering a fear, etc. Setting personal goals is important because we as women tend to focus on helping everyone else; our families, children, and significant others. Most often, we come last on that list. Allow yourself to focus on YOUR future and the things you want to accomplish or things you are passionate about.
A few quick goal-setting tips:
- Set a realistic timeline
- Set goals that are attainable. Goals that are difficult to achieve will cause you to lose your motivation
- Once identifying your ultimate goal, list the steps that it will take for you to get there. As you accomplish something, celebrate your success
- Once you achieve your goal, think about what’s next
- Start writing out your goals today!
