OWN’s “Iyanla: Fix My Life” has been a stellar breakout show on Mama O’s network!
Heading to Los Angeles, Iyanla Vanzant visits actress, Maia Campbell and helps her acknowledge her faults, accept responsibility, and prepare for a brighter future.
Back story: After a run on LL Cool J’s “In the House” came to an end due to cancellation, Maia “apparently turned to drugs to ease her pain.” Her addiction “worsened” after she lost her mother to brain cancer in 2006.
“When I lost my mom it was tough for me. I tail-spinned back into drugs and I went back into the streets a lot,” the actress revealed to Iyanla.
Not helping her issues was her family – “[They] barely let me come see her… They thought I would cause problems.”
Doing what the life coach does best, Iyanla stops Maia and shines some light & reflection on the obviously hurt actress.
“Are you clear that a lot of the times you could have been with her and talking to her, that you were in the street doing drugs? – Maia, you were high… You gotta own your stuff. It’s not about them,” explains Iyanla Vanzant.
