Alicia Keys Defends Her Marriage In JET Magazine

Alicia Keys has finally addressed the accusations that people have been waiting years for her to speak on in JET Magazine!

In 2010, Swizz Beatz ex-wife, Mashonda, alleged that her husband stepped out on their marriage with Alicia Keys. As a result, Alicia received tons of backlash and was labeled as a “homewrecker.” The songstress took the high road when it came to the accusations, but she’s finally ready to address the matter!

In the new issue of Jet Magazine, Alicia says she remained silent because “there’s no need to fight what’s not true!”

“[They] were apart for some time before we ever got together…that doesn’t matter to those who take pleasure in trying to knock others down…there’s no need to fight what’s not true…

She also dishes on her love for Swizz Beatz.
I’d never met a person where I could be fully myself…Swizz and I live in each other’s shadow. So we can occupy the same space and there is nothing but equality. There’s something really powerful about that.”

It seems like they all have moved past the drama and just want to focus on the children that are involved.

Last year Mashonda revealed in an open letter:
As a mother, Kasseem’s happiness is the single most important thing in my life. It took some time, but I now realize that even my former husband and his new wife, are my partners in this wonderful journey.”

There you have it!

  1. Whether they were together or separated, they were STILL married. As a married woman and having to deal with infidelity, yes I lost respect for Alicia. To me it doesn’t matter if they were separated, Alicia should have waited until that relationship was totally dissolved. Getting involved with Swizz Beats while he was still married did nothing but damage Alicia’s reputation and cause her to loose the respect of many of her fans. Honestly, I don’t even listen to Alicia’s music, old or new, anymore because I have lost respect for her as a woman and an artist.

    • I definitely understand your point! She should have waited until they were legally separated! I love her music though. If you listen to her song “Brand New Me” she touches on the subject!
